Mike Tyson apparently has zero interest in fighting Evander Holyfield.
According to a release from Holyfield’s team, negotiations were ongoing to book the third meeting between former heavyweight champions in May at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami. However, the release says that Tyson’s representatives declined a $25 million guarantee to face Holyfield.
“We thought this was a done deal but it quickly fell apart when Tyson’s people declined all offers,” Holyfield’s manager Kris Lawrence stated. “We were negotiating in good faith all along and it appears we just ended up wasting our time.”
According to the statement, the parties representing Tyson and Holyfield have been in “intense negotiations for several months” with the Holyfield team feeling like a deal was “imminent”.
Tyson and Holyfield’s previous fights both ended in losses for Iron Mike.
November 9th, 1996 saw Tyson lose the WBA Heavyweight title after suffering an 11th-round TKO loss to Holyfield. Their second fight on June 28, 1997 was the most memorable after it ended with Tyson biting off part of Holyfield’s ear and being disqualified for it.
