It has been a rough couple of days for Regis Prograis. The former super lightweight champion found himself on the wrong end of a decision against Jack Catterall this past weekend. The fight itself was a thriller, with both men showcasing their skills and grit. But when the final bell rang, it was Catterall’s hand that was raised in victory.
In the aftermath of this setback, Prograis is now faced with a critical decision: What is next for him? In an emotional interview, the Louisiana native didn’t mince words. He laid bare the physical and mental toll this sport has taken on him.
“I’m not going to lie, I got a lot of that’s hurting on me right now. Not just my face, my eye, my knee, my hand. A lot of different stuff hurting on me right now. So we going to go back to the drawing board and see what’s going to be next,” said Prograis via Boxing News.
The uncertainty surrounding Regis Prograis’ future extends beyond the immediate physical ailments. The 35-year-old hinted at the possibility of a career change. He mentioned his long-standing desire to try his hand at bare-knuckle boxing. He also acknowledged that a move to 147 pounds could be an option.
It’s clear that the former champ is grappling with a range of possibilities, each with its own set of risks and rewards. It remains to be seen whether the 29-3 fighter will find the resolve to mount one final push for glory or will he seek greener pastures elsewhere.

Regis Prograis had come out swinging, claiming that his British counterpart Catterall was “nothing special.” He further said that he lacked any real pedigree in the sport. This guy from New Orleans didn’t seem to be too impressed with Catterall’s recent upset victory over Josh Taylor.
“He’s a cool person. I don’t know him that good, but we met for this fight in Manchester, he shook my hand. But as a fighter he is just decent – Josh Taylor aside, he doesn’t have anything on his CV. There’s nothing special, no bells and whistles, just a decent fighter,” Prograis told BBC Sport.
To his credit, Jack Catterall isn’t backing down from Prograis’ taunts. The 31-year-old Brit fired back, saying that Regis Prograis had been “very fortunate” in his career and that his last couple of performances had been “questionable.” This trash talk shaped the eventual fight to be a classic battle of egos and pride.
