Oscar De La Hoya lashed out on social media as the Haney family ramps up pressure with a lawsuit. Golden Boy Promotions, headed by De La Hoya, was behind the Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia fight in April, which has since been labeled one of the year’s most controversial matchups. Recently, Bill Haney chose to take legal action, seeking additional revenue from the promotion. In response to the lawsuit, De La Hoya, the Golden Boy promoter, fired back at the Haney family, intensifying the dispute.
The controversial fight between Garcia and Haney took place on April 20, 2024, where Garcia knocked down ‘The Dream’ four times, ultimately winning by majority decision. However, VADA later discovered that Garcia had used Ostarine, a banned substance, resulting in a one-year suspension for ‘King Ry.’ In response, Haney filed a lawsuit against Garcia for battery, fraud, and breach of contract.
Additionally, the former undisputed lightweight champion is demanding a complete accounting of the event, including evidence of expenses from Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which promoted the April fight. As the pressure mounted from Haneys, De La Hoya took to social media to defend his promotion, stating,
“Enough is enough. Every fighter who has worked with Golden Boy has always been paid exactly what they are owed and given all documents they were entitled to. Period. Any suggestion to the contrary is simply false. If the Haneys are still having trouble understanding their contract, we will be happy to walk them through it, again.”
As of now, there has been no response from the Haney camp. However, reports indicate that ‘The Dream’ received 47% of the fight profits. Furthermore, both De La Hoya and Garcia have reacted to Haney’s lawsuit on social media.
