De La Hoya recently decided to part ways with The Ring, but not just to any buyer. In a recent interview with Brian Mazique, the ‘Golden Boy’ revealed that he’s sold the magazine to the chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, and that too for a hefty $10 Million.
“The offer from Turki Alalshikh was an offer that I could not refuse. It’s in great hands. I strongly feel that Turki Alalshikh, because of his love of the sport, is going to continue to grow the brand and make sure that the Ring Magazine continues to thrive, grow, and give fans the best content.”
For those unfamiliar, The Ring is often referred to as the “Bible of Boxing.” It’s a highly respected magazine that has been covering the sport for over a century. In 2007, De La Hoya purchased the magazine for $7 million.
Turki Alalshikh has been on a mission to shift the hub of the sport from North America to Saudi Arabia. And till now, he has been doing a pretty good job of it. With his deep pockets and unwavering passion for the sport, he’s been bringing some of the biggest names and promotions to his neck of the woods.

Now, under Alalshikh’s ownership, The Ring is about to undergo some major changes. In a recent post on X, the Saudi official laid out his grand plans for the publication, and they have some real potential to shake things up.
“The print version of the magazine will return immediately after a two year hiatus, and it will be available in the US and UK markets… We will continue to raise the prestige of The Ring Titles. In the coming weeks, we intend to debut a brand new state of the art website and mobile app. We are already in development for a line of Ring Magazine merchandise.“
Turki Alalshikh’s deep pockets have a proven track record of shaking up the sport. Some might worry that he is trying to take too much control over The Ring’s operations. But the man himself has been quick to reassure everyone that the magazine will remain fully independent. He revealed that it will have no involvement from his Riyadh Season initiative.
