Every week, someone from the combat sports world takes a shot at Jake Paul, mocking his boxing skills and questioning whether he’s a legitimate fighter. Olympic gold medalist Claressa Shields joined in this week, throwing shade at Paul. She claimed she could easily go toe-to-toe with him in the ring and outclass him without any problems. It looks like ‘The Problem Child’ still has plenty of critics.
In a recent chat with TMZ, Claressa Shields acknowledged that Jake Paul is bringing more attention to the sport, which is exactly what it needs. She’s hopeful that everyone involved in that side of boxing can build on this momentum and create a real blueprint for future generations. It’s all about using this moment to make a lasting impact on the sport. However, when it comes to skills, Shields doesn’t believe Paul has what it takes to even compete with her or any ranked opponent in the ring.
She said, “I don’t think Jake Paul has the skills to get inside the ring with me or any of the guys that are at 154 pounds or up who is ranked in the rankings. I’m not gonna lie to you. 1 to 10. I don’t think he could pick a guy 1 to 10 in any of the rankings, any of the weight classes, and beat them.”
Given that Paul fights opponents who’ve long passed their prime, from Mike Tyson to Anderson Silva and others, there’s always skepticism about his skills. On top of that, the only legitimate big fight he had was against Tommy Fury, which he lost. That’s why Shields holds her belief—Paul just hasn’t proven himself against top-tier, active fighters.
Joe Rogan Thinks Jake Paul Is Genius
While many in combat sports don’t view Paul as a serious boxer, UFC commentator and podcaster Rogan thinks otherwise. After the Mike Tyson fight, while most were criticizing Paul, Rogan stepped in, calling Paul a genius and dismissing his critics as idiots. On an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience, he explained why he fully supports Paul’s tactics and sees no issue with his approach to the sport.
He said, “I don’t have anything against Jake Paul, I like Jake Paul, I think what he’s doing is genius….he’s making insane amounts of money, he’s having a great f*cking time, he’s a legitimate boxer.”
