Anticipation of fights is one of the sweetest things in combat sports. Fans can testify to the jitters they get as the fight date gets closer. But sometimes, circumstances take that all away instantly. Such is the case with the highly anticipated bout between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Gervonta Davis.
Lomachenko’s manager, Egis Klimas, recently dropped a bombshell that’s shaken up the boxing community. He revealed that the Ukrainian boxing sensation was ‘not in the mood’ for a fight. Moreover, he added that the Ukrainian boxer has temporarily decided to step away from the ring.
“Loma is not in the mood right now, he doesn’t have the motivation at the moment. He’s taking off. He wants to spend more time with the family. He doesn’t want to do anything till the end of the year. So he’s definitely not coming to the ring till the end of the year.” Klimas stated via Steve Kim.
The news came as a surprise to many fans who had been eagerly awaiting this clash. Lomachenko is known for his incredible footwork and technique, but he has other priorities at the moment. The manager, however, made it clear that Lomachenko isn’t retiring and is simply taking a hiatus until the end of the year.
Meanwhile, boxing promoter Bob Arum was reportedly eager to make the Lomachenko-Davis fight. This pause might make the upcoming fight even more exciting. Until then, fans will have to content themselves with just occasional trash talk and predictions about the eventual fight.
Bob Arum Clear the Air About Vasiliy Lomachenko Wanting To Fight Gervonta Davis
Boxing, and any other sport for that matter, boils down to one thing: business. As such, matchups are often as much about dollars as punches. Veteran promoter Bob Arum recently shed light on an intriguing situation involving three of boxing’s brightest stars.

Arum revealed that Vasiliy Lomachenko, the Ukrainian boxing wizard, was more interested in facing Gervonta “Tank” Davis than Shakur Stevenson. He revealed that the reason was quite simple, as it would garner more green paper.
“The Davis fight is more money. It’s a bigger fight. Fighters are in this business to make money, and you can’t fault them for that,” Arum stated in an interview with Sean Zittel.
This revelation came amidst Stevenson’s recent free agency, which has stirred up quite a buzz in the boxing community. The young star had previously accused Top Rank of prioritizing Lomachenko over him. But Arum was quick to set the record straight. He emphasized that fighters, not promoters, ultimately decide their opponents. Boxers will fight wherever they get more money, as simple as that.
