Undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez has opened up about facing Jamie Munguia later this year.
After a lengthy period of negotiations, Canelo Alvarez has finalized his next opponent. He was previously seen in action against Jermell Charlo in September last year. Following the bout, a number of opponents were billed to be his next opponent and it looked like he would take on Jermall Charlo next. However, the bout did not go ahead.
Interestingly, fans have been desperate to see a fight between Canelo Alvarez and David Benavidez, however, the Mexican will take on Jamie Munguia on May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Speaking about his fight on Instagram, Canelo Alvarez posted a video on the social media platform. Take a look at the video below:
Jamie Munguia currently boasts an undefeated record of 43-0 and has 34 knockouts to his name. He has good power and speed and he looks to have improved tremendously over the past few years. However, he is not on the level of Alvarez by any means. As a result, it is safe to assume that Alvarez will be a massive favorite heading into the fight and will most likely retain his undisputed super middleweight titles.

Mike Tyson and David Benavidez slam Canelo Alvarez
Canelo Alvarez’s decision not to fight David Benavidez has garnered a lot of criticism. As mentioned earlier, fans have been eagerly waiting for this fight and Benavidez has certainly proven himself worthy of a shot at the title.
One man who seems to be incredibly frustrated by Canelo Alvarez’s decision is legendary boxer, Mike Tyson. During an interview with Marca, Tyson said:
“What’s wrong with Canelo? Is he afraid of losing? Doesn’t he want to give the fans the fight they want to see? Don’t you want to give the fans the fight they want to see? Do you not respect the legacy of the great Mexican champions who faced the best regardless of the money?… This is a shame for boxing and Mexico.”
Moreover, David Benavidez also had some words recently. The boxer revealed that Canelo Alvarez turned down nearly $60 million and a historic 92/8 purse split. He said:
“I was completely fine with that. This guy was taking everything and I’m not saying he shouldn’t. I don’t give a f***, I wanted the opportunity.”
That said, it looks like the highly anticipated fight between Alvarez and David Benavidez won’t be happening anytime soon.
