Usually when there is a death in the boxing world after a bout, people will usually look at the trainers or refs to blame for not stopping the fight.
This isn’t one of those cases.
Maxim Dadashev’s trainer Buddy McGirt could be seen desperately pleading with the boxer to let him throw in the towel to end the fight because he was taking way too much punishment. The Russian boxer wouldn’t listen as he continued to fight Subriel Matias.
Maxim was in such bad shape after the fight that he couldn’t exit the ring under his own power after taking north of 300 punches to the face and body. He would eventually collapse and taken to a stretcher that transported him to an awaiting ambulance.
He was said to have thrown up several times before falling unconscious. Maxim suffered “severe brain damage” and underwent emergency surgery but his condition deteriorated.
On Tuesday, it was announced that the 28-year-old passed away due to the injuries he sustained against Matias in Maryland last week.
