In the 90s, boxing seemed like a closed-off sport where outsiders struggled to break in. Unlike other sports, boxing is brutal, with fighters facing real danger in the ring. However, the last decade has seen a dramatic shift as YouTubers and celebrities have entered the boxing arena. Jake Paul stands out among them, making a name for himself by taking on legendary fighters, building a professional career, and achieving impressive numbers. As he gears up for his highly anticipated fight against Mike Tyson, a viral clip has surfaced where promoter Eddie Hearn calls Paul “average,” forcing him to swallow some humble pie.
While Paul’s fight record includes some well-known names, most are either retired boxers or MMA fighters past their prime, leading to doubts about his legitimacy as a boxer. In a DAZN video from two years ago, promoter Eddie Hearn bluntly called Jake Paul “average.” The comment clearly stung the YouTuber-turned-boxer after his 2020 debut fight against AnEsonGib. After which he tries to reply but still gets humbled.
In the video, the conversation goes like this, ‘The Problem Child’ pressed, “You call me average after one minute of my first professional fight.” After which, Hearn replied, “You are still average.” Paul fired back, saying he hadn’t shown enough of his skills to be called average. “You don’t even know my ability though,” he said sternly. Hearn replied, “That’s true, that’s true. I don’t know where you might go. I just give you where I think you’re at, which is average. Average is very complimentary for you as a boxer.”
There’s no doubt that, unlike Francis Ngannou, Jake Paul hasn’t faced top-tier boxers in their prime. His one chance to silence the skeptics was against Tommy Fury, but he didn’t win. So, despite defeating some big names, questions about his true skills remain.
Mike Tyson Vows to Finish Jake Paul
There’s no doubt that when Paul steps into the ring against Tyson, millions around the world will tune in to witness the boxing legend’s return. For those unaware, it was Tyson’s last fight against Roy Jones Jr. that gave Paul the chance to shine and make his boxing debut. Now, as Tyson prepares to face “The Problem Child,” he’s vowed to end Paul’s career once and for all.
He stated, “Well, I’m 60 years old. He’s 27. So, I don’t know. I started Jake Paul off. On my fight with Roy Jones, I allowed him to fight on the card, and I decided I started him. And I’m gonna finish him.”
