YouTube star Jake Paul took the first defeat of his professional boxing career Sunday night, losing a split decision to Tommy Fury. Despite the loss, it appears he may have gained so much more in his bank account.
Paul dropped Fury in the final round of their fight on Sunday night but was on the wrong end of a split decision when the fight went to the judges after eight rounds.
He took to Instagram to post a video of himself pretending to cry before bursting into a smile with the caption: “When you lost but made $30m.”
Both men are expected to get even more money if they formally agree to a rematch. Paul has the option in his contract to exercise his right to a second fight and said he would do just that following the final bell. “We can run it back,” he said. “I think we deserve that rematch. All respect to Tommy, he won. Don’t judge me by my wins, judge me by my losses.
“I felt flat – I got sick really bad twice in this camp, injured my arm. This wasn’t my best performance, but that’s no excuse. This is definitely a humbling experience. I’ve made it further than I ever thought that I would, and beyond.”
