Canelo Alvarez’s victory over Jaime Munguia earlier this month sparked rumours that he might face Terence Crawford later this year. Jaime Munguia suffered his first professional defeat at the hands of Canelo, as the judges’ scorecards showed that the Guadalajara native had won easily.
The younger Munguia was floored once in the fourth round but made it to the final bell with a strong effort in the most challenging bout of his career, thanks to Alvarez’s experience and boxing IQ.
Munguia got a strong start in the fight, scoring some nice combinations and dodging Canelo’s aggressive moves around the ring. However, that changed when Eddy Reynoso’s fighter delivered a considerable uppercut that knocked Munguia.
At the post-fight press conference, Munguia acknowledged that he tried to quickly regain those points by being more aggressive and falling into Canelo’s trap rather than following his game plan of using his reach advantage and technique to keep Alvarez at bay.

He clarified that he didn’t want to move to a second weight class after the fight. After defeating “The Truth,” Crawford criticised Canelo Alvarez. At 168 pounds, the Mexican superstar holds the uncontested title of super middleweight champion.
Terence Crawford seems eager to fight despite the disparity in weight. But after September’s altercation between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo, the two never held negotiations. Talk of a conflict between Crawford and the Mexican border has ended in the last few months.
This summer, Crawford will battle Israil Madrimov for the Uzbek world title, increasing to 154 pounds.
Andre Rozier, one of boxing’s most reputable trainers, is concerned for Crawford if the fight goes poorly. If Crawford is successful, a matchup with Canelo might follow.
