Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, a highly esteemed Mexican boxer, currently holds all major titles in the super middleweight division, establishing him as the undisputed world champion. Renowned for his exceptional abilities and achievements, Canelo is widely considered one of the top boxers of his era.
With a record of 60 wins, 2 losses, and 2 draws, including 39 knockouts, Alvarez was previously promoted by Oscar De La Hoya under the Golden Boy banner for most of his career. However, he has recently secured a new promotional deal.
Canelo Alvarez’s Boxing Promotion Deal
Alvarez had been promoted by De La Hoya and Golden Boy Promotions for most of his career, but he ended his contract with the promotion in November 2020 due to a breach of contract. During a press conference in Las Vegas, Alvarez strongly criticized De La Hoya in response to derogatory comments made by the former boxing champion.
De La Hoya accused Alvarez of disrespecting his name, which sparked a heated exchange between the two. While such verbal exchanges are common in boxing promotion, Alvarez expressed dissatisfaction with the situation. However, he did not elaborate on his feelings towards De La Hoya.
Despite several promotional controversies, Canelo Alvarez has amassed numerous world championships across four different weight divisions, making a substantial mark in the light middleweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight divisions throughout his career.
Presently, Alvarez and Jaime Munguia have finalized their upcoming bout on May 4th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where Alvarez will defend his undisputed super middleweight title against Munguia.
