The Saturday bout between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney is still scheduled despite Garcia having missed weight by three pounds. On social media, Haney acknowledged that Garcia was underweight and had honoured the $500,000 per pound. This means that Haney has received $1.5 million of Garcia’s earnings.
Golden Boy verified Garcia’s weight loss and complied with the handshake agreement at yesterday’s press conference. The WBC super-lightweight world title held by Haney will be contested in New York by the competing American boxing stars, but the belt will no longer be up for grabs should the challenger prevail.
On Friday, Haney met the 140-pound super-lightweight limit during the official commission weigh-in, conducted behind closed doors. Garcia, though, didn’t. Instead, at 143.2 pounds, he was 3.2 pounds over the allowed weight.

Haney stated that Ryan Garcia would miss weight during the press conference on Thursday and the days leading up to the fight. Garcia defeated Oscar Duarte via eighth-round knockout in December; the bout was initially slated to take place at 140 pounds, but it was contested at 143 pounds.
