With war being waged in Eastern Europe, many athletes, both past and present, have found themselves at the forefront of the discussion surrounding the ongoing battle between Russia and Ukraine.
No athletes, however, are more in the thick of it than former heavyweight boxing champions Vitali and Wladimir Klitschko.
The Ukrainian brothers have become very involved back in their home country since retiring from the ring. Vitali is the mayor of the country’s capital city, Kyiv, which has become a key battleground in the ongoing war.And both he and his brother, Wladimir, have vowed to defend their territory from Russia’s invasion.
During an interview on ITV’s “Good morning Britain,” Vitali Klitschko told the audience, “I will be fighting,” adding that he has “no choice” but to defend his country.
Brother Wladimir echoed those sentiments when the 45-year-old enlisted himself for the army earlier this month after an invasion from Russia was becoming more and more evident.
Vitali has since joined him, and the brothers teamed up to launch a joint appeal to the public shortly after the attacks began.

The Wikipedia pages of both brothers have also been updated to include their military service:
If Putin wants Ukraine, it looks like he’s going to have to get by both of the Klitschko brothers first.
