The boxing world was sent into a frenzy when long-time partners Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe recently parted ways. Ellerbe, a very close friend of Mayweather, stepped down as CEO of Mayweather Promotions. The duo has been together professionally and was frequently spotted in press conferences and interviews. No one knew why the legendary duo split up, as both had much success together. But recently, the Hall of Famer’s uncle made a massive revelation regarding the split.
Real Reason Behind Floyd Mayweather and Leonard Ellerbe’s Split
Floyd Mayweather’s uncle, Jeff Mayweather, opened up on the split and gave us some massive insight. Jeff said,
I guess it could have played a part. I mean, if you are in between promotions and you’re working with one and you’re not working with the other. I mean yeah, so I mean, but, I don’t think there was no, like I said, I don’t think there was no animosity or anything. Because even Floyd always spoke as you know, he would always say that you know, when Al Haymon has fights you know. Because he can always get his fighters on Al Haymon’s shows.
Leonard Ellerbe had a good rapport with both Al Haymon and Mayweather. For those who don’t know, Haymon was Floyd’s manager many years back in the ring. Therefore, Leonard used to get along with both Floyd and Al. Jeff clarified that Ellerbe’s reluctance to part ways with Haymon caused the split between Mayweather and Leonard.
Although Jeff revealed no animosity between the duo, and both are on friendly terms, it will be interesting to see how Mayweather’s promotions do under Richard Schafer in the boxing world. Mayweather promotions had a ton of superstars signed up for them, like Gervonta Davis and Devin Haney. However, currently, things are a bit dry at the promotion, and it will be interesting to see what change Schafer brings to the table.
Will Floyd Mayweather experience the same success in the promotion game as he did in the ring? It remains to be seen.
