A new star is rising in the world of boxing as Edgar Berlanga, the undefeated Puerto Rican powerhouse, is gearing up for the fight of his life. His opponent is none other than the legendary Canelo Alvarez. Plus, the date couldn’t be better as the fight was set to happen on Mexican Independence Day.
Berlanga isn’t just another contender. He’s a force to be reckoned with, as his fists pack a punch that could knock out anybody. The Puerto Rican boxer is aware of this and issued a warning to Alvarez recently on the Pound 4 Pound podcast.
“He’s gonna try to look for ways to break my arms down, and I’ve got the power to knock him out. When we land on him, he’s gonna feel something different for sure—I guarantee you, he’s gonna feel something different,” said Berlanga.
The 27-year-old has been training like a man possessed. He’s not about to let this golden opportunity slip through his fingers. Every drop of sweat, every aching muscle, brings him closer to his dream. Edgar Berlanga’s strategy revolves around that jab. He plans to control the pace, keeping Alvarez at bay.
But Canelo Alvarez is no pushover. The man’s a boxing legend for a reason, and he has taken on all comers and come out on top more often than not. Yet Berlanga remains unfazed. He’s taller, he’s got reach, and he’s got youth on his side. September 14th at the T-Mobile Arena will be a night to remember.

On the very same night, just up the strip, the UFC is making history. They’re hosting an event at the mind-blowing $2.3 billion Sphere. Berlanga thinks Canelo made a bit of a blunder here. He believes they should’ve moved their bout to a different date.
“But if I was in Canelo’s shoes, personally me, I would have said, ‘Yo let’s push this date up, let’s push it another two weeks and give the UFC their shine – they’re making history that day, and we’re making history, but we’ll push it up two weeks’,” said Berlanga via Pound 4 Pound podcast.
But let’s not forget, Canelo’s got his reasons. September 14th is close to Mexican Independence Day, and it’s his time to shine. This clash of events has stirred up quite a storm. Boxing versus MMA, old school versus new school. It remains to be seen which sport will dominate the other in PPV sales.
