After defeating Artem Harutyunyan at the Prudential Center in Newark, Shakur Stevenson retained his WBC world lightweight title. Now, the reports suggest this was Stevenson’s final fight under the Top Rank banner. Multiple promotions, including Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Floyd Mayweather’s promotion, are willing to sign Stevenson.
Matchroom has revealed its plan for Stevenson if he joins the promotion. The first fight could be against Mexican boxer William Zepeda. After that, the 27-year-old would move up to the super lightweight (140 lbs) division to face Liam Paro. The third fight would be a co-promoted bout between him and Gervonta Davis.
Now, the fighter is exploring his options, with Mayweather Promotions and Matchroom both eager to sign him. Additionally, Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, which has been active since 2002, is also trying to attract the young champion by emphasizing De La Hoya’s role in boosting Mayweather’s career by setting him up against top fighters.
