On October 12, the two best light-heavyweight fighters in the world will face off as Artur Beterbiev takes on Dmitry Bivol. Beterbiev is poised to be Bivol’s biggest threat in this matchup. Fans now have an exciting fight to look forward to on that date. Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is also keen to arrange a second meeting between Bivol and Canelo Alvarez, regardless of the outcome of Bivol’s upcoming fight.
Regardless of the outcome, Hearn is already considering what lies ahead for both fighters. He stated that if Bivol wins, a rematch with Mexican superstar Canelo Alvarez could take place at 175 pounds, similar to their first fight. However, if Bivol loses to Beterbiev, the rematch with Canelo could happen at 168 pounds. In his interview with Boxing News, Hearn shared his insights on these potential matchups.
“If Dmitry Bivol beats Artur Beterbiev, we have the opportunity to do Dmitry Bivol against Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed light heavyweight world championship. If Dmitry were to lose, he could drop down to 168 to challenge Canelo Alvarez, which he’s capable of doing. So, obviously, we want to see Dmitry win this fight. And if Canelo wants it, I would love to make that happen.”
However, it ultimately depends on Canelo himself and whether he wants the rematch. In their first meeting, Bivol handed the Mexican star a defeat, marking a significant moment in his career by claiming the WBA interim light heavyweight title. But now, the upcoming fight with Beterbiev promises to be an electrifying showdown for fans.
