Dmitry Bivol is just days away from the biggest fight of his career, as he prepares to face WBC, WBO, and IBF light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev on October 12 at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia. While many are speculating about a potential rematch between Bivol and Canelo Alvarez after this fight, the 33-year-old boxer has dismissed the idea for now, focusing solely on his upcoming bout with Beterbiev.
The Bivol vs. Beterbiev fight is undoubtedly one of the biggest bouts of the year, with both undefeated Russian fighters set to face off. As fans speculate on what’s next for Bivol after this clash, he recently appeared on Fight Hub TV and addressed the topic of a potential rematch with Alvarez, revealing it’s no longer a consideration. Bivol stated,
“For the belts, of course, Beterbiev means much more to me. For me, Canelo was the stepping stone to have a big fight in my career.”
The 33-year-old boxer also mentioned that he isn’t thinking about Canelo, as his focus is entirely on the Beterbiev fight right now. Although Bivol’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was keen on arranging a Canelo vs. Bivol rematch, those hopes seem to be dashed for the moment. Despite this, Hearn remains fully supportive of his fighter, backing Bivol to secure a victory against Beterbiev.
Eddie Hearn Confident in Dmitry Bivol’s Ability to Defeat Artur Beterbiev
Matchroom promoter believes Bivol has the ability to defeat Beterbiev. Hearn highlighted Bivol’s intelligence and ability to fight strategically for 12 rounds. He also referenced Bivol’s impressive victory over one of the greatest fighters of all time, Canelo Alvarez, but acknowledged that the Beterbiev fight will be a tough challenge for the 33-year-old. In a recent interview on Fight Hub TV’s YouTube channel, Hearn stated,
“Bivol is the kind of guy that is intelligent enough to do that four 12 rounds. He’s still very dangerous. There’s not many that can, but he can defeat Beterbiev. “When you look at what he did against Canelo, and you are talking about one of the greatest fighters of all time.“
