Garcia touched up Haney throughout the twelve rounds, knocking him down multiple times. The build-up to the battle was insane, with many verbal jabs exchanged, and Garcia missed weight. As it turns out, the drama regarding the bout has not ended, as Ryan Garcia recently failed the pre-fight drug test.

Combat sports athletes must undergo various drug tests to ensure fair play and the safety of all participants. According to the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, Garcia failed the doping test. He tested positive for the banned substance Ostarine, according to journalist Mike Coppinger. Garcia was the heavy underdog in the bout, and he shook everyone when he scored a comfortable victory over his opponent.
Ryan dropped Devin Haney three times during their bout. Haney had no answer to Garcia’s left hook. The boxing world will be upset seeing doping allegations and positive drug tests at the epitome of the sport. As good of a boxer as Garcia is, it was disheartening to see him test positive for a banned substance and subsequently fail the doping test.
Ryan Garcia currently has 10 days to request his B sample be tested. He will want to have his B sample tested as soon as possible, as these allegations might damage his reputation beyond repair. It’ll be interesting to see what direction this takes in the near future.
