The late 1980s and 90s truly marked a golden era for boxing, with movies like Raging Bull and Rocky playing a huge part in bringing the sport to households everywhere. These films not only boosted boxing’s popularity but also turned actors like Sylvester Stallone into icons within the boxing community. Fast-forward to today, and Stallone’s recent remarks mocking modern-day boxing didn’t sit well with Devin Haney. The new-age boxer hit back, reminding the Hollywood legend that his movies were fictional.
Sylvester Stallone recently talked about the gloves he wore during the filming of Rocky in 1976. He mentioned that the gloves were the same ones used by professional boxers in the 1970s. According to Stallone, these gloves were only six ounces and made by Reyes, which made them incredibly dangerous—so much so that they’re no longer allowed in boxing today.
He still keeps them as a reminder of a tougher time, expressing that life used to be harder and that he values hard work, even though he doesn’t enjoy it. Haney didn’t take kindly to Stallone’s comments and quickly fired back. Calling out the actor for not knowing the difference between a left hook and a fish hook. Haney also took issue with Stallone’s remarks about boxing being easier these days, pointing out that the actor was just playing a role in Rocky and that those movies weren’t real.
Dude don’t know a left hook from a fish hook.. & got the nerve to speak on times being easier in boxing like he wasn’t just an actor.. buddy them rocky movies wasn’t real https://t.co/uGM7Kldi3R

Sly’s comment definitely struck a nerve with Haney, but there’s no denying that boxing has seen a dip in both popularity and the level of competition in recent years. Back in the day, there were countless fighters who commanded attention and posed a real threat, but today, the list of truly dangerous fighters is much shorter.
Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia Rematch Might Happen In October
Haney fires up for another shot at Garcia. Unsatisfied with their first fight, he aims to leave no doubt about who the real champ is. Their April 2024 clash was intense, with Garcia narrowly defeating Haney in a close decision. But the win was tainted when it was overturned after Garcia faced allegations of PED use.
Garcia is coming back from suspension to fight Rolly Romero, while Devin Haney will take on Jose Ramirez, announced Turki Alalshikh. The event, labeled as a Ring Magazine show, will happen in the U.S. this May. Heavyweight contenders Martin Bakole and Efe Ajagba will also battle in an IBF title eliminator. If both Garcia and Haney win, they’ll square off again in October in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
