According to his father and trainer, Jose Benavidez Sr, David Benavidez plans to submit an appeal letter to maintain his position as the mandatory challenger for Alvarez’s WBC super middleweight title.
Having recently claimed the WBC interim light heavyweight title, Benavidez now faces a 10-day deadline to notify the WBC whether he will keep the interim belt. The aim is to challenge the winner of the October 12 undisputed light heavyweight fight between Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol or continue as the mandatory challenger to Alvarez.
Benavidez has held the WBC’s No. 1 contender spot for Alvarez for over two years, becoming the mandatory challenger in 2023. Alvarez, the first undisputed 168-pound champion of the four-belt era, has defended his titles four times. Fans eagerly anticipate this potential matchup.
