A young boxer is in a serious condition in the hospital after fighting off and stabbing to death a wild bear that had just killed his friend.
The decorated Russian boxer, who is in “grave condition,” was on a fishing trip on the Irtysh River in Russia when he and fellow angler Vyacheslav ‘Slava’ Dudnik were suddenly attacked. The 48-year-old Vyacheslav was quickly mauled to death, and would soon turn his attention to 23-year-old professional boxer Ilya Medvedev.
“I heard screams. They shouted: ‘A bear!’ ” eyewitness Denis Chebotar told East 2 West news of “The Revenant”-esque saga, which occurred near the Irtysh River in Siberia.
Chebotar was reportedly fastening the team’s boat to the riverbank when he heard screams and shouts of “a bear,” which prompted him to rush into the forest to aid his buddies. He later heard gunshots. “He had time to shoot twice, then obviously retreated, recharged, and made two more shots.”
Upon arriving at the scene, he “saw Slava dead” and Medvedev “finishing the bear off with a knife.”
Despite sustaining several bullet wounds, the ferocious beast kept mauling the fighter, and even managed to knock the firearm out of his hand. Medvedev started “stabbing it with a knife,” recounted Chebotar.
Chebotar then had to drag the “barely alive” boxer to the boat and transported him to the hospital, where he is currently in intensive care with lacerations to the head and body.
