Canelo Alvarez returned to the squared circle last night and took on Jamie Munguia. The Mexican went up against his countryman Jamie Munguia in an attempt to defend his undisputed super middleweight title.
The highly anticipated fight was being looked forward to as it took place during the Cinco de Mayo weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, at the T-Mobile Arena. As one would assume going into the fight, Alvarez emerged as a considerable favorite to retain the title.
When they finally entered the ring, Canelo Alvarez defeated Jamie Munguia. In the fourth round, Alvarez dropped his opponent with a vicious uppercut, but he failed to stop Munguia.
Having dominated Munguia for most of the fight, the latter won the bout unanimously. In the process, Alvarez also retained his undisputed super middleweight title.

Oscar De La Hoya reacts to Jamie Munguia’s loss to Canelo Alvarez
Despite the loss, Jamie Munguia seems to have a bright future ahead. And that is what his promoter and former pro boxer, Oscar De La Hoya, also thinks. During the post-fight press conference, De La Hoya linked Munguia’s loss to that of Alvarez’s loss to Floyd Mayweather. He said:

“It’s just like Mayweather-Canelo, you know. Canelo got schooled. Same thing with Munguia, he did get schooled but he gained experience.”

That said, the boxing promoter has undoubtedly raised a good point. Jamie Munguia has a lot of room to grow, and this experience will undoubtedly help him become a better fighter.
On the flip side, Canelo Alvarez once again showed why he is the natural face of boxing with a tremendous performance.
