Combat sports, such as Mixed martial arts and boxing, are some of the most deadly sports in the world. UFC President Dana White and the UFC have been accused of abysmal paying the MMA fighters on the UFC rosters on several occasions. Recently, the 54-year-old UFC president touched on the subject of fighter pay in the world of boxing.
White has been running the UFC for decades and knows what happens behind the scenes when paying the fighters their fair share. In an interview given recently, he revealed the current state of boxing.
UFC President Dana White on money in boxing
In previous years, boxers were some of the highest-paid stars in the world. But things are not the same anymore. In an interview with Shannon Sharpe, the UFC President revealed many things that might not go down well with boxing fanatics and explained why many boxing superfights occur in the Middle East. He said,
Boxing got so f***ed up that nobody could actually make a living out of it, that Saudi Arabia had to take it over. A group of people that have so much money, they don’t care whether they make or lose money. That’s how f***ed up boxing got.
White claimed that boxing had no money, and the folks involved in the sport, including promoters and the athletes, weren’t making any money. Therefore, the world witnessed many fights taking place in Saudi Arabia, which is considered one of the richest countries.
In the previous months, we have seen star boxers like Tyson Fury, Oleksandr Usyk, and others at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh. It seems like the land of deserts has become the latest hub for boxing, and we will continue to see boxing superstars scrapping it out for glory in front of the Sheikhs.
