In a closely contested bout, Ryan Garcia defeated Devin Haney by majority decision. Garcia scored knockdowns in rounds 7, 10, and 11 before securing the win. However, controversy arose when the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association notified stakeholders that Garcia had tested positive for Ostarine, a banned substance.
As a result, Bill Haney, Devin Haney’s father and manager, demands a revision of Haney’s undefeated record or a halt to discussions about future fights until the issue is resolved.
Bill Haney Takes Stand on Devin Haney’s Undefeated Record Amidst Controversy
On May 1, the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association informed everyone involved that Ryan Garcia tested positive for Ostarine, a banned substance, on both the day before and the day of his fight against Haney. Ryan Garcia denied the accusations, expressing his willingness to undergo further testing as he’s not guilty.
The New York State Athletic Commission is reviewing whether to change the fight’s outcome to a No Contest or award Devin Haney a win by disqualification. Bill Haney stated that Devin will not discuss future fights until his undefeated record is restored.
Recently, Haney suggested that Garcia could be facing a two-year suspension for testing positive for performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs). Haney previously sent a formal letter, through his attorney, to the NYSAC, urging them to reconsider his loss and potentially change it to a disqualification or no contest due to Garcia’s failed drug tests.
The New York State Athletic Commission will decide Garcia’s fate this week after reviewing his two positive tests for ostarine. Garcia’s boxing future hangs in the balance, and further details are expected to emerge in due course.
