The light heavyweight division has been drawing increasing attention ever since Alex Pereira became the champion. While many are lining up to dethrone him and claim the title, this time, it’s not ‘Poatan’ making headlines but his rivals. Magomed Ankalaev and Jiri Prochazka have sparked a heated debate on social media that’s generating significant buzz.
Prochazka is gearing up for his first fight of 2025, asserting himself as the top contender in the light heavyweight division. Prochazka hasn’t stepped into the octagon since June, when he faced the Brazilian fighter for the light heavyweight title at UFC 303, losing via second-round TKO. Now set to return at UFC 311 in January 2025 against Jamahal Hill, Prochazka has also called out Magomed Ankalaev for a fight.
In a video shared on his X account, Prochazka criticized Ankalaev, stating he “did nothing” in his last three fights and showed “totally nothing.” Offended by the remarks, the Russian fighter hit back with a scathing tweet, pointing to Prochazka’s recent losses. Ankalaev wrote,
“Hey, why you talk about me, 2 of your last 3 fights you went to sleep, Alex made you go to sleep but I will make Alex go to sleep and I believe Jamahal Hill will make you sleep also, your new name is sleepy Jiri. Focus on your fight.”
Magomed Ankalaev Decides Between a Fight with Pereira or Jones
Ankalaev, a top contender in the UFC’s light heavyweight division, was recently interviewed about his preference between facing Alex Pereira and heavyweight champion Jon Jones for a title shot. In the interview, Ankalaev made an interesting comparison, likening both fighters to desserts. He said,
“The desserts are both very tasty [smiles]. But Pereira is in my division, so I would choose him,”
