Zach Wilson came to the podium after the first practice of Jets training camp and a reporter wasted little time asking about the drama he went through off the field.
Everybody in the room likely wanted to know about the Instagram accusation by his ex-girlfriend, Abbey Gile, that he slept with his mom’s best friend.
“How’d you kind of handle these last few weeks with all the social media stuff that you had to deal with.?”
Wilson answered it like a pro.
“It’s just about football and that’s really all I can do,” Wilson said. “It is what it is. Excited to be here with the boys. Excited to be in Idaho with those guys, too. Excited to try and get better every day, that’s all I can focus on.”
It all started when Abbey Gile reportedly posted to Instagram confirming her new relationship to Wilson’s former college teammate and current Washington Commanders wide receiver, Dax Milne, who posted pictures with her along with the cryptic caption, “Word on the street.”

After someone on Instagram called Abbey a “homie hopper” for moving on to Wilson’s former roommate, she reportedly wrote back that he “was sleeping with his mom’s best friend … that’s the real homie hopper.”
It’s unclear who the “best friend” is, but we’re going to need her to step forward and tell her side of the story.
The Jets have taken steps to surround Wilson with more talent and to make sure he can stay upright in the pocket. In 13 games last season, Wilson led the league in yards lost due to sacks. A healthy Mekhi Becton, plus the addition of left guard Laken Tomlinson, should help that issue.
