Despite the lack of competitiveness in the Conference Finals, the NBA is never fully boring.
Nearing the end of another blowout game Wednesday in which the Celtics beat the Heat, 93–80, to take a 3–2 series lead, 76ers center Joel Embiid took to Twitter and caused a wave of controversy with one statement.
“Miami needs another Star,” Embiid posted.
That tweet went insanely viral as social media thought Embiid might be pushing for a trade to the Heat.
Following the Sixers’ loss to the Heat in the second round of the NBA Playoffs, Embiid and Butler shared an on-court embrace, with both stars discussing their relationship following the game.
“I’m happy for him,” Embiid told reporters according to Yahoo Sports. “I won’t sit here and say I didn’t wish he was my teammate. I still don’t know how we let him go. I wish I could’ve gone to battle with him still, but it is what it is.”

Philadelphia has been struggling to find the right superstar to pair with Embiid since he entered the league in 2014. He and Ben Simmons did not work out, so they traded him for James Harden, but he a shell of the player we once knew in Houston.
Embiid signed a supermax extension in the offseason to stay in Philadelphia through the 2026-27 season.
