Things are heating up in the Deshaun Watson sweepstakes as two teams have reportedly made offers to the Houston Texans for the disgruntled quarterback’s services.
According to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, both the New Orleans Saints and the Carolina Panthers have made offers to the Texans for Deshaun Watson. And apparently the offers are good enough that the Texans have allowed the quarterback to speak with both teams — which is expected to happen in the coming days.
Deshaun Watson has a no-trade clause, so he would have to agree to any trade before it can become official. That’s why these meetings are so important. Watson must give the green light before the Texans can pull the trigger.
The Panthers have been rumored to be putting together an “aggressive” package for Watson, which would include multiple first-round picks, another early-round picks, and at least one young, elite roster player (Jeremy Chinn, Brian Burns and Derrick Brown have been mentioned as possibilities).
With that being said, you’d have to assume that the Saints have put together something similar if the Texans are considering them a worthy candidate as well. It’ll be interesting to see if either of these two teams come out of these talks with a deal, or if someone else emerges as Watson’s next team.
