Carson Wentz was certainly not the Washington Commanders first choice. He wasn’t even the second or even third.
This week, the Washington Commanders acquired Carson Wentz in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts in attempt to fix their QB issue, but latest reports suggests they would’ve loved to another QB behind center.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Washington pursued Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson, Jimmy Garoppolo and considered signing free agent Mitchell Trubisky.
They eventually just settled with Wentz.
Rodgers made his decision to return to the Green Bay Packers. Russell Wilson got traded to the Denver Broncos. Deshaun Watson is still dealing with multiple sexual accusations against him, and it is not currently known if the league will suspend him for games or not.
Mitch Trubisky only threw for 43 passing yards last season in limited time, and Wentz just seemed like the best available option left.
