Zion Williamson was the hottest prospect to enter the NBA since LeBron James.
The budding New Orleans Pelicans star and former No. 1 draft pick took the basketball world by storm in high school. In his rookie season, he missed the first three months with a knee injury.
Yet to play at all this campaign, the 21-year old Williamson is now dealing with reports of him weighing over 330 pounds after an unflattering photo of him surfaced on social media. He was photographed on the sideline during the Pelicans’ loss to the Rockets last Friday.
“The number I’ve heard from several places on Zion is 70 pounds higher than 260. I’ll let you do the math on that,” ESPN’s Tim MacMahon said on “The Lowe Post” podcast Tuesday.
Well, it appears he has bad sources, because some fans recently spotted Zion and took a picture with him and posted to social media. The below photo shows him looking to be in the best shape we’ve seen him in since Duke.
The Pelicans’ official roster lists his weight at 284 pounds. Some critics questioned if he’d be able to handle an 82-game season due to his size, especially being a dunk-heavy player.

Last month, the Pelicans had made moves to improve Williamson’s diet by changing some of the organization’s culinary practices, according to ESPN.
Despite his early injury struggles, he has shown he can be a star player with career averages of 25.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 3.2 assists on 60.4% shooting.
