Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly had the Green Bay Packers atop his list of teams to sign to after the Cleveland Browns parted ways with him.
Beckham wanted to go to Los Angeles. He signed a one-year deal with the Rams to finish the 2021 season on the West Coast. Him landing there likely had something to do with the Packers sending him a low-ball offer. According to Jordan Schultz, the Packers front office is the reason Odell Beckham Jr ended up in Los Angeles and not Green Bay.
“This Just In: Mark Murphy is the main reason why the #Packers failed to land Odell Beckham, Jr., per sources. I’m told HC Matt LaFleur wanted OBJ, believing his acquisition would be both seamless/positive for GB offense. Murphy lowballed Beckham, while #Rams believed in him.”
Reports came out that the receiver wasn’t too pleased with Green Bay’s contract offer of the veteran’s minimum. The veteran’s minimum for an eighth-year receiver is just a tad under $1.1 million — which means Beckham would have been owed $537,000 to play their final eight games.
According to Peter Schrager of Fox Sports, Aaron Rodgers, head coach Matt LaFleur and wide receiver Davante Adams all made pitches for the three-time Pro Bowl receiver.

Following the Packers’ 17-0 victory over the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, Rodgers finally addressed the Packers’ pursuit of the veteran receiver.
“I think that we are obviously limited with our salary-cap situation. I’m not sure what he ended up signing for, but I’ve been friends with Odell for a long time and have so much respect for his talent and his ability, and I wish him the absolute best in L.A.”
“I think there was a lot of conversations around bringing him in, and for whatever reason, it just wasn’t the right fit,” “But I feel good about the fact that we were in the mix.”
On Thursday, OBJ agreed to join the Los Angeles Rams after a short week of speculation as to where the Pro Bowl receiver would play the rest of this season. Beckham accepted the Rams’ offer which includes a deal featuring $3 million worth of incentives.
According to Spotrac, the Packers have over $6.2 million available in space. Meanwhile, the Rams have just over $2.8 million in available cap space.
