NBC’s Al Michaels is a wanted man. Last year, ESPN reportedly wanted a dream-team of broadcasters going forward and they had “plans to attempt to acquire Al Michaels from NBC Sports for “Monday Night Football.”
This time around, Amazon is targeting him to be the voice of its upcoming exclusive Thursday Night Football package, according to the New York Post’s Andrew Marchand. The below reports also says that Fox’s Joe Buck and CBS’ Ian Eagle are also potential targets for Amazon.
The 76-year-old Michaels is scheduled to broadcast Super Bowl LVI in Los Angeles for NBC, but he is also in the final season of his current contract. Amazon becomes the exclusive broadcast partner of Thursday Night Football in the 2022-23 season.
Per the Post, Michaels could also join Amazon in 2022 and remain at NBC in a lesser role.
Tony Romo landed a huge 10-year, $180 million deal with CBS, so Amazon could easily sway him with a similar type deal, if not more.
Age ain’t nothing but a number when it comes to broadcasting.
