Felix Verdejo has turned himself in to federal agents on Sunday night. A 27-year-old woman whose body was found in a lagoon in Puerto Rico was a companion of lightweight boxer.
The body of Keishla Rodriguez was found a couple of days after she showed up to his home with a pregnancy test to inform him that he was the father.
Verdejo allegedly called a person on Tuesday to help end his girlfriend’s pregnancy, and he met the victim on Thursday, which is the same day she went missing.
Verdejo, who competed in the 2012 Olympic games for boxing and has a 27-2 professional record, was said to have punched the 27-year-old woman and then injected her with a drug, prosecutors said. Verdejo and another man Rodriguez Ortiz’s arms and feet using a wire. They tied her to a block, and dumped her off a bridge between the capital of San Juan and the city of Carolina.

Top Rank, which has promoted Verdejo, released a statement on the situation Saturday.
“Top Rank’s thoughts and prayers are with Keishla Marlen Rodriguez Ortiz’s family and friends, and with all those in mourning,” the statement read. “We are deeply disturbed by the news reports, and we will continue to monitor developments in the case as it progresses.”
