A former Rutgers men’s basketball player is formally under arrest in Mexico after authorities allege he murdered a 19-year-old night club worker, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.
Logan Kelley was taken into custody a few days ago. Reports say that Kelley walked up from behind the young woman and fatally sliced her neck with a knife that was recovered at the scene by police, the Union Tribune reported.
Police identified the victim as 19-year-old Isis Atalia Montoya Romero, who died at the scene, according to the Union Tribune.
“In a graphic video circulated on social networks, Kelley appears to be wearing a coronavirus mask as he walks behind Montoya and puts his arm around her neck, stabs her, and then throws her to the floor,” the Union Tribune reported. “Kelley then runs away with a security guard chasing behind him while the victim appears to be struggling on the floor.”
As a walk-on during the 2012-2013 season, Kelley played three just three games under head coach Mike Rice before he would receive a scholarship by Rice’s successor Eddie Jordan the following summer, but he elected to depart the program.
He transferred to Northeastern Colorado Junior College in Colorado where he played one season. His collegiate career would come to an end at Division II school Montevallo in Alabama before declaring for the 2017 NBA Draft, where he was not drafted.
