Aaron Rodgers is easily one of the best and brightest quarterbacks to ever grace an NFL field. He also has apparently been pulling a fast one on Green Bay Packers coaches for quite some time.
Speaking on Pat McAfee’s show on Tuesday, the Packers quarterback revealed that he’ll sometimes pretend there’s an issue with his helmet’s communication system so that he can tune out the suggested play calls from coaches and run a play that he likes instead.
“Do you ever call off or wave off any calls coming in from the sidelines in your helmet? Or another move I know defensive guys have used in the past, you could say your speaker cut out so you can call what you want,” longtime Packers teammate A.J. Hawk asked.
“I’ve done that a ton of times,” Rodgers answered.
Rodgers admitted that he’s defied play-calls a “fair amount,” while adding that “every now and then it’s real.”
The 36-year-old signal-caller recalled a moment from the 2019 season about Green Bay head coach Matt Lafleur’s reaction when Rodgers’ helmet went out three times during a game.

“He could not believe it. The second time it went out, he thought I was messing with him. Then I faked one in between the second and the third time, I did the —,” Rodgers said as he pointed to where his helmet would be pretending that he couldn’t hear anything.
“And I was laughing and pointing at him.”
