Leading up to the Dallas Cowboys’ season opener, there was major talks of who might be the first player to kneel during the National Anthem for the time ever since anthem protests kicked off in 2016.
It turns out that defensive tackle Dontari Poe was the only player to kneel during the “Star Spangled Banner.”
Social media had a fun time making memes about Jerry Jones seemingly staring down at him.
In reality, the multi-billionaire had no issues with what anyone did, especially with Poe kneeling:
“I thought our players, I thought they gave it sensitivity. They showed respect to Poe’s decision there. I think they did show sensitivity to our fans as a team. . . . All in all, I thought our team was very real, very genuine in the way it approached it,” he said.
On the field, the Cowboys new look offense never really showed up as the team only scored 3 points in the second half and lost to the Rams. On top of that, the team was dealt with huge blows as linebacker Leighton Vander Esch sustained a broken collarbone and will be out on a 6 to 8 weeks notice. Tight end Blake Jarwin tore his ACL during the opening game and will be sidelined for the remainder of the season.
