Despite the overall outrage on social media about the proposed CBA, NFL players still voted in favor of the NFL owners’ proposed collective bargaining agreement Sunday, which means there will be a 17th regular season game added as well as expanded playoffs in the near future.
The NFLPA announced the union voted in favor of the agreement.

“We are pleased that the players have voted to ratify the proposed new CBA, which will provide substantial benefits to all current and retired players, increase jobs, ensure continued progress on player safety, and give our fans more and better football,” Commissioner Roger Goodell said in the statement. “We appreciate the tireless efforts of the members of the Management Council Executive Committee and the NFLPA leadership, both of whom devoted nearly a year to detailed, good faith negotiations to reach this comprehensive, transformative agreement.”
The CBA is set to run through the 2030 season.
Adam Schefter of ESPN also noted that “Now that a CBA has been agreed to, teams cannot use both the franchise tag and transition tag in this offseason (i.e. the Cowboys and Dak Prescott/Amari Cooper). Teams would have been permitted to do that if the 2020 league year had been conducted under the terms of the 2011 CBA.”
