Earlier today, Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reported that Redskins owner Dan Snyder viewed Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin as his top choice for the next head coach of the Washington organization.
Snyder wants Tomlin so bad that he was said to be willing to part ways with draft picks to secure him. Tomlin signed a one-year contract extension in July to stay in Pittsburgh through 2021.
Well, that’s too bad.
Adam Schefter of ESPN would kill that noise when he dropped his own report that stated the Redskins pursuing a trade for Steelers HC Mike Tomlin after the season can be filed under the “not-going-to-happen” category.
Schefter explains that Tomlin has two years remaining on his contract after this season and Pittsburgh would need to be “blown away” by an offer from the Redskins to trade him.
“I don’t see Mike going to Washington,” a source tells Schefter. “That is so far-fetched. It’s so far out there. It would have to be a deal that the league never has seen before and would change the way business is done in football, and I don’t see that happening.”
Jeremy Fowler would soon add that Tomlin has ‘zero interest’ in coaching the Redskins. Fowler added that Tomlin is happy in Pittsburgh and even if he were available, he would likely pursue other jobs due to the dysfunction in Washington.
