It’s pretty much verified That Shawn Oakman would’ve made millions when he most certainly got selected in the 2016 NFL draft, but that all went to dust after he was accused of sexual assault by a woman he had a previous relationship with.
Last week, he got his chance to put this entire thing behind him after a McLennan County jury found the former Baylor Bears defensive end not guilty of sexual assault in a case that has drawn national attention.
Via Wacotrib:
The accuser, then a 22-year-old graduate student, testified Wednesday that she had been drinking at a Baylor-area bar with Oakman the night of the incident and that Oakman walked her to his nearby apartment. She said Oakman would not let her leave but instead removed her clothes and raped her on the bed twice.
Testimony in the trial began Wednesday after the original judge in the case recused himself on Monday based on a motion from the defense that objected to him unsealing documents without notifying defense attorneys. Judge Ralph Strother of Waco’s 19th State District Court was replaced by retired State District Judge Michael Snipes of Dallas.
The former projected 1st-round pick is now looking to accomplish something that was stolen from him by working hard to get into the NFL.
“I think God will set the right path for me but I don’t feel like I have to beg for anything, it’s not a begging matter. I don’t want anybody to hand me anything. I want to earn it and everything I get. I want to play football at the highest level and just really finally get my chance,” Oakman told KWTX.

The 6-foot-9 Oakman currently weighs 267 pounds, which is a bit less than what he was while at Baylor. It’s a long shot for Oakman to make a team, but if he’s willing to put in the work, anything is possible.
