A new 10-part docuseries about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and the team’s dynastic run in the ’90s is coming to television.
On Wednesday, the league announced that Netflix, Skydance Sports, NFL Films and Stardust Frames Production are teaming up to produce a 10-part series focusing on Jerry Jones and the Cowboys’ rise to dynasty status in the 1990s:
“Netflix has teamed up with Skydance Sports and NFL Films, in association with Stardust Frames Productions, for an upcoming documentary series that tells the definitive story of Jerry Jones and his unique journey in transforming the Dallas Cowboys franchise, leading a historic set of players and coaches to three NFL titles in the 1990s, and searing his imprint into the global sports business landscape. Along the way, Jones has become one of the most innovative and influential leaders in sports, with the Cowboys being the most valuable sports franchise in the world.”
According to the release, former Cowboys star players Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith, Michael Irvin, Deion Sanders, Hall of Fame head coach Jimmy Johnson and former U.S. President George W. Bush are among the subjects that will be interviewed for the story.
Jerry Jones became owner of the Dallas Cowboys in 1989, purchasing the team for $150 million from the late “Bum” Bright. Jones controversially fired beloved head coach Tom Landry and replaced him with the aforementioned Jimmy Johnson.

Led by a star-studded roster led by Aikman, Smith and Irvin, the Cowboys emerged as a juggernaut in the early ’90s. They went on to win three Super Bowl championships over a four-year span (1992, 1993 and ’95), becoming the second NFL franchise to win five Lombardi Trophies up to that point.
The Cowboys, haven’t been the same since their last Super Bowl championship in the 1995 season. Dallas has won just five playoff games since 1996, and they haven’t gotten past the Divisional Round since they last hoisted the Lombardi Trophy.
Jerry Jones & ’90s Cowboys Finally Get Their Documentary
There have been documentaries on other sports dynasties like the “Showtime” Los Angeles Lakers of the ’80s, Michael Jordan’s ’90s Chicago Bulls and, more recently, the New England Patriots of the 21st century.
It’s been nearly 30 years since the ’90s Cowboys celebrated their last Super Bowl championship, but the franchise remains more widely-followed and beloved than ever before. A documentary on the Cowboys of the ’90s was long overdue, and it promises to be entertaining one way or another.
